Happy Monday! It’s a really dull and rainy day here in the little town of Cobourg. The good news is that I saw a robin today, our harbinger of spring! With the rain, that should bring on the spring flowers and turn the grass to green, I hope.
My blog today is about two things really, manners and respect. Those of you who know me, know that I’m a bit of a fuddy duddy--someone who likes to see folks use their manners and proper English.
A while ago, I started tweeting quotes, mostly Bible quotes and I get them from my inbox each day from various resources. I try to make sure that they are uplifting and/or inspiring, because we know that some parts of the Bible are in the ‘fire and brimstone’ category and I prefer to stick to the positive messages. We get enough negative stuff out there every day.
Around about the same time, I started posting prayers on my Facebook fan page. Occasionally, the prayers are from me, but because I am still trying to find my own style, I mostly get them from a daily e-mail I get from Crystal McDowell, who sends out a daily post from Daughters of the Creator. I adapt the prayers to change ‘I’ to ‘we’ as I suggest that we pray together. I also capitalize ‘You,’ when it refers to God or Jesus, because I believe that it is appropriate. You will also tend to find that I add please to the prayers. Not always, but often.
I know that we can ask God for anything, but, as with asking anyone else for anything, I think that ‘please’ is appropriate. When I say my own prayers, there are also dozens of ‘thank yous’ as well. I believe that I have been very blessed to have so many blessings in my life, and I have much to be thankful for.
When I am rushed, my simple prayer is: Dear God, thank you so much for all of my blessings, particularly for the angels and the people in my life. I also ask for forgiveness, please, for all of my sins of commission and omission. Good night and amen.
When I am not rushed, I list the people in my life that I am most grateful for: my kids, Cavan, my parents, my siblings, their spouses and children, Cavan’s parents, his siblings, their spouses and children and I list my closest friends and then I try to remember the things that I am most thankful for: being able to get out of bed on my own every day, our home, my car, my cats and some other things that might pop into my mind at the time. Often, I also have specific people that I pray for. Then, I ask forgiveness, please, for the things I have said, done or thought that I shouldn’t have and the things that I didn’t say, do or think that I should have and I ask for guidance to do better.
I know that I will be forgiven, but that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t add a please.
I also ask for peace throughout the world and for no hunger or thirst in the world--a pretty tall order!
Perhaps I’m just getting a little set in my ways, but I believe that even my daily discussions with God should show manners, and that my postings should show respect, by capitalizing ‘You’ and ‘Your,’ when referring to God or Jesus.
Okay, off my soapbox for now! I pray that everyone has a great week and with Easter coming up in two weeks and I pray for some nice sunshiny days and spring flowers! God bless!
